Frequently Asked Questions
How long are the sessions?
Your salt therapy sessions will last for a lovely 45 minutes and your sauna sessions will be a cozy 45 minutes with a little extra time before and after to change and get comfortable.
Are your services covered by insurance, HSA or FSA?
Unfortunately, our services are not currently covered by insurance, but don't worry! You can still use your Health Savings Accounts or Flex Spending Accounts to pay for your salt therapy sessions. And who knows, your sauna sessions may even be covered by these accounts too. Just check with your insurance provider.
Do you need an appointment?
Yes, we are an appointment-based business. We do our best to accommodate walk-ins when we can, but unfortunately, we can't make any promises. But the good news is, we often have same day appointments available. Give us a call or book online.
What times are appointments available?
For your relaxation and comfort, our adult relaxation room appointments will start 30 minutes after the hour (e.g. 10:30, 11:30, and so on).
Our infrared sauna appointments will begin on the quarter hour (e.g. 10:15, 11:15, and so on).
And for those bringing little ones, our kids appointments will start 15 minutes after the hour (e.g. 10:15, 11:15, and so on).
To make sure you have a smooth start to your visit, please arrive 10 minutes early for your appointment so you have time to fill out paperwork, freshen up, and get settled. If you do happen to be running late, we may need to reschedule for another time slot.
Are you in the room by yourself? If I come with someone will we be together?
If you're coming with a friend, family member, or significant other, you'll get to enjoy your salt therapy session together. Our rooms are spacious enough to fit up to 4 people, but sometimes you might even have the room all to yourself if you're the only one booked for that session. However, since someone may book the same session at the last minute, we can't make any promises. If you prefer to have the room all to yourself, just send us an email after you've made your booking at info@saltroomappleton.com, and we'll do our best to accommodate your request.
What should I wear?
For your comfort, feel free to wear whatever you like to your salt therapy session. Most people simply come as they are, but please keep in mind that the salt particles may stick to your clothing, especially on darker colors. No worries, this won't damage your clothing, it's just something to keep in mind if you're planning to go out after your session. If you're coming for skin concerns, you might consider wearing shorts or a tank top to expose more skin.
And don't worry, we'll provide you with foot covers to wear during your session or just kick off your shoes and be sure to bring socks, and children will need to wear clean white socks. Just one friendly reminder, please be mindful of strong fragrances and avoid wearing strong perfumes, colognes, hairspray, scented lotion, and the like to ensure that everyone in the room can enjoy a pleasant experience.
What do you do during a session?
Salt therapy sessions are a great opportunity to unwind and relax. Some folks like to nap or meditate, while others prefer to catch up on reading or browsing on their phone. Just remember, phones must be in a protective case or plastic ziploc bag. Don't forget to bring your own! For children, we have books and toys to play with quietly during the session. And for parents who prefer, you can also let your children watch a video on a phone or tablet during their session.
Will I feel a difference from one session?
You might feel a difference after just one salt therapy session, but it really depends on each person and their symptoms. For the best results, it's recommended to have at least 3 sessions within a couple of weeks or less. Some people report clearer breathing or better sleep after a session, while others might experience a runny nose or drainage during the session, which is just a sign of congestion loosening up. So don't be surprised if you experience either of these!
How often do you need to come for salt therapy sessions?
If you're new to salt therapy, it's suggested to try having a few sessions within a week or two, with a goal of 3-5 visits, to give your respiratory system a gentle cleansing boost. However, some people have reported experiencing great results even after just one or two visits. From there, you can come as often as you need for maintenance. It really depends on your individual condition and symptoms, but we'll be happy to give you a better idea once we learn more.
And for those with chronic conditions like asthma or COPD, we offer unlimited flat rate memberships so you can come as often as you need. And remember, using salt therapy as a continuous preventative measure is always the best way to go.
Is salt therapy safe for children?
Salt therapy is a gentle and natural solution for little ones, especially those with sensitive skin. This non-invasive and drug-free therapy is safe for kids of all ages, including premature babies. It helps clear congestion and promotes peaceful sleep without any harm to their delicate skin or lungs.
Is salt therapy safe during pregnancy?
Salt therapy is a safe and natural option for women at all stages of pregnancy. If you have any specific questions or concerns, it's always a good idea to talk to your doctor. But don't worry! Visiting The Salt Room is just as safe as breathing in the salty air by the beach. So, go ahead and take a deep breath!
Do I need to worry about germs? How are the salt rooms sanitized?
Salt is naturally great at fighting off bacteria and germs. Our salt rooms are covered in salt particles that keep germs at bay, and for extra peace of mind, we use a UV light to sanitize the room after each session. The UV rays from this light are like superheroes when it comes to destroying bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms. You can feel confident that our salt rooms are always clean and germ-free!
Is salt therapy something you only do when you are sick or have symptoms?
Salt therapy is an amazing way to keep your respiratory system healthy and happy, even when you're feeling well! By visiting us regularly, you'll be preventing illnesses and keeping mucus from building up, which can lead to infections like sinus and ear infections. Think of it as a proactive and relaxing spa day for your respiratory system! So no, not just when you are sick :)
Will salt therapy help me if I'm already sick?
Sure thing! You're welcome to come see us even if you're not feeling your best. But keep in mind, if you wait until you're already sick, you may need more frequent visits. Salt therapy is not a substitute for seeing a doctor. It's always best to use it as a way to keep yourself healthy and prevent illnesses from happening in the first place. If your child is feeling under the weather and has raw or chapped skin from blowing or wiping their nose a lot, the salt could cause irritation, so it might be best to wait until their skin has healed before coming for a session.
What is your cancellation policy?*
We always want to make sure you have the best possible experience at The Salt Room! To ensure a full session and to be respectful of other guests, please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.
If something comes up and you need to cancel your appointment, no problem! Just let us know 24 hours before and there's no charge. If you need to cancel on the same day, there may be a 50% charge for the scheduled service. If you don't show up for your appointment without cancelling, there may be a charge for the missed appointment at the regular price, and if you have a prepaid session package, one session will be considered used. Thanks for your understanding!
Do I get the same benefits from having salt lamps at home?
Salt lamps and salt therapy are two different things, but both are great for your health! Salt lamps work by purifying the air in a natural and gentle way. They attract water molecules in the air and trap things like dust, pollen, and dander in the salt. When the lamp is warm, the water molecules evaporate back into the air, but the other particles stay trapped in the salt.
On the other hand, salt therapy uses the powerful properties of salt to clean and detox your respiratory system, which includes your nose, lungs, airways, and sinuses. The tiny salt particles in the salt room can reach deep into your lungs and help clear away mucus, kill harmful bacteria, and reduce tissue irritation. So, while salt lamps are great for purifying the air, salt therapy takes things to the next level by targeting your respiratory system.
